CAES Codebreaker: INL’s Advanced Manufacturing Group lead to discuss challenges, strengths and how the group’s research is changing our energy future

Jorgen Rufner, who leads the Advanced Manufacturing Group at Idaho National Laboratory, will present at the CAES Codebreaker webinar on Feb. 2 at 3:30 p.m. MT.
INL’s Advanced Manufacturing Group is focused on developing new materials, methods and processing pathways that enable INL’s Initiative for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing for Extreme Environments. This effort is critical for INL’s vision of changing the world’s energy future as the use of advanced materials spans across nuclear component and fuel design, bonding methods for difficult-to-join materials, synthesis of metastable phased materials, optical materials and transparent ceramics, hypersonic and interstellar flight vehicles, defense and ballistics.
In his presentation, Rufner will discuss the challenges his group faces, as well as its capabilities, strengths, current projects and more.
CAES’s monthly Codebreaker webinar provides a forum for researchers and students from the CAES universities to address their work, communicate opportunities and challenges to a receptive audience, and increase dialogue among CAES affiliates.
