Subsurface resource extraction presents unique challenges and opportunities for geoengineers working on geothermal, geo-hydrogen, and critical mineral extraction. The significant potential of these subsurface resources for energy transition is often limited by the extremely low permeability of the host rock. Wencheng Jin will discuss electric-hydraulic fracturing and how to stimulate a fully connected fracture network devoid of short-circuiting in low-permeability formations.
